Opticos’s Dan Parolek and John Miki were in Austin, TX, last week for the successful kick-off of the citywide code rewrite. They were energized by a Code Advisory Group meeting, which demonstrated excitement about the project and confidence in the Opticos Team.
On a tour of the city, they discovered many cool neighborhoods and great food. Local, creative businesses serve many of these areas. Duplexes and other four- to six-unit missing middle housing types are common in many of Austin’s pre-1940’s neighborhoods. Throughout the city, the Opticos team found evidence of development and entrepreneurship, and appealing contemporary architecture—though, the city is still short some 39,000 housing units due to its rapid growth. Along the corridor of North Lamar Boulevard and Burnet Road, there are 3,000 units in progress.
Austin is fortunate to have a talented planning and urban design staff, and Opticos is enthusiastic about working together with them.
