Is your neighborhood, community, or city considering a Form-Based Code? Maybe you think you already have one? The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning recently released a simple, little handbook to help communities and individuals understand what Form-Based Codes are, and how to use them effectively.
Much in the spirit of a good FBC, Form-Based Codes: A Step-by-Step Guide for Communities uses clear and concise language and well-thought out illustrations to answer many of the frequently asked questions surrounding FBCs, including how to asses if a FBC is right for your community and the different approaches to writing one.
The handbook is largely based on information presented in the book, Form-Based Codes: A Guide for Planners, Urban Designers, Municipalities, and Developers, written by Opticos principals Daniel and Karen Parolek with Paul C. Crawford, experts in New Urbanism and founding board members of the Form-Based Codes Institute. Read more about CMAP’s new handbook here.
