John’s understanding of digital technology, combined with a passion for urban places, has shaped his work providing clients of all types with cutting-edge planning and design solutions. Through his collaborative spirit and dynamic style, John has created a host of award-winning Form-Based Codes and plans that engage the latest in technology to help communities understand and support the character of their place. He brings his experience and knowledge to assist the Opticos Design staff in crafting and implementing walkable communities. He is a highly-regarded resource on Missing Middle Housing—a range of housing types compatible in scale with single-family homes, that address the growing demand for walkable, urban living.

John has been an active resident of Albany, CA. He has participated in the Transportation Commission and Climate Action Committee and currently serves as Vice-Mayor. He recently was sworn in as an At-Large Member representing Alameda County for the East Bay Division of California League of Cities.
